16 Apr, 2025: New seeds of a book idea?

I rarely capture the moment a new idea for a book comes to be, but this was genuinely fascinating as ideas go, and it all stemmed from a dream. In the dream, the secret of how to turn people into aquatic beings was uncovered, and there was a campaign to get people to "take the plunge," as it were, into being aquatic themselves. Some people transformed into fish-like people, some looked like barnacles, it all depended on the person. In the dream, I was kind of an undercover cop investigating the new society of aquatic people and found evidence that not everyone chose this new life, and of those who did, many regretted it, but were forced to say they loved it.

There are certainly things about this idea that need to be ironed out, including whether the main character will be a normal human or an aquatic person (Name of this species is not decided), but I can see a series being created from this idea, with each book unravelling more about the society.
